Pretty Me Retro?

What seems like forever ago I was sent this darling dress from Tesco as unfortunately the original dress I opted for which was beautiful was tiny and when I managed to exchange it said dress was sold out! This dress is something I wouldn't normally go for as it's straight up and down and sleeveless but the pretty pastel colour and adorable detailing with the lace won me over! I love the colour and feel of the fabric it doesn't feel like that uncomfortable and slightly sweat material the lining is what seems to be cotton (YAY!) and it's something you could wear on the hottest day, quite like the last few days and still feel okay. Sleeveless is something I fear over as I'm always paranoid about my upper arms but this year I say no more! If it's warm I shall have them out as sometimes a misshapen cardigan can completely ruin an otherwise lovely outfit! Here I paired it with a denim jacket purely because I liked how it looked and when I took these it wasn't 26 degree's!

I felt like channelling my more retro look with this quirky scarf tied in my hair and a backcombed ponytail behind it. I've not done my hair like this for so long that I can't decide if it still suits me or not! Don't get me wrong I love the scarf in hair look but I'm not sure as to whether my heavy fringe now makes it a little too much. I finished the look with my usual red lipstick and I was good to go, I really hope you don't tire of my red lipstick obsession but I just feel right with a cherry coloured tiny on my lips! I decided to face my fears and wear this out in public... I did feel a little OTT for the supermarket but I didn't get too many odd looks so I may try this again!

The Meadow.

These Pictures were taken while I was on holiday in Suffolk with my folks and brother. I want to keep this post short and sweet as I tend to end up rambling a lot more than I need to.

Skirt and top are from Dorothy Perkins, the skirt has hardly been off all summer it just works with everything. My leggings are from Matalan, socks and flower head piece (which I've only worn once and fall has basically fallen apart) are from Primark. Then finally my shoes are from Evans a couple of years ago.

Just want to add that I'm thinking of shaking my blog up a bit in terms of layout and what not, any thoughts?

Tree's and timber.

The post is only called this because a) there are tree's largely in the background and b) you can see some random bits of wood behind me as well. I took these photos in May but never got round to posting them, they were taken at my Granny's which a lot seem to be at the moment but we can blame this on the fact I can find places to balance my camera without having to lug my tripod everywhere.

So this is something I wore for college and you've seen all these pieces before. The top I bought while I was in London from New Look and its from the normal range but its supposed to be a baggy fit but I wear it more fitted and its really comfy. My skirt was a sale bargain from Dorothy Perkins and I tend to wear it almost weekly as it also works for the whole range of weather, which lets be honest is basically perfect for a British summer! The cardigan is also a much used and abused item of my wardrobe its worn basically all the time and is beginning to fall apart but until I find the perfect replacement it will have to survive. Of course I'm wearing my little floral headband I made myself! I'm hoping to make some more I just love wearing it so much.

I feel this is a pretty short post for me but I'm kind of mentally exhausted from writing my toile diary and just generally over thinking. So I don't want to bombarded you with me wittering on, also I have some pictures of my models in my garments I'll get them up as soon as possible! I'm so tired now that if I yawned I'd possibly swallow my face.

Do you really want to hurt me, do you really want to make me cry.

This hat or work of art is inspired by the film "red shoes"
which is one of my favourite old fashioned films.


The piece which is first in the row of four is based on the style
of an old fashioned perfume bottle, complete with air puffer.

A selection of red styled hats, these were situated with the red

shoes piece. Projected on the back ground was clips from the film. I really love this "painter's hat" as well as the paint splattered

piece right underneath it. In the background you can just see the Vivienne

Westwood garment and accessories.

This dress is even more breath taking in person, with

the layers of fabric pleating. The hat is in the style of an

Edwardian fan which is open.

There was so many hats styled with there designer

garments they were made to go with.

Florist inspired hats, just like flowers winding

up a terrace in a English country garden.

This has to be one of my favourite hats in the collection

which was in the exhibition. I think its the detail which has

gone into the piece from the flowers to the pagoda.

I think this was Vivienne Westwood but please correct

me if i am wrong.

Sorry that this is such a picture heavy post! But there was actually a lot more photo's from this exhibition at the MoMu, that just the few I've posted up for you to have a little look-see, and yes this is another blog post related to my trip to Antwerp but really i just saw so much! I promise there's only maybe two or three posts left for me to write about Antwerp but I'm trying to spread them out so I don't bore you to death, haha. While I'm writing I'd look like to say i drew a few of of head pieces in the collection while i was there and i feel my drawing improved a fair bit since this time last year so I'm pretty happy over that, maybe now I've found my own style of drawing or something? Who knows.

Anyway I want to start off with a quote with was on the wall at the start of the exhibition...

"A hat can be a veil or an alibi, a head turner or a friend. It can give clues or like this forward, serve as the into to all the wonder that lies within." I don't know what it is about this quote but i just think it is beautifully written. The full title of the exhibition I went to is "Stephen Jones and The Accent of Fashion." It guides you through the unique and inspiring world of a hat maker who has worked with a number of great names from the international fashion scene for over three decades. Stephen Jones's hats bring there own punctuation to the silhouette much like question marks in a written piece. Stephen Jones plays a behind the scenes character in the fashion community because of the amount of freedom he is given by any of the designers he works with.

the Stephen Jones exhibition also looks at his early years in London when he was involved with not only fashion but photography, film and maybe the most important music. Stephen was one of the "in" crowd at the Ritz night club in the early eighties. For those who don't know what this was Boy George was also hugely involved with the club as was Steve Strange. This scene that pro-created within the clubs grimy walls was the "new romantics" and Stephen Jones threw himself into this new scene with both hands. At this time Steve made hats for himself and the new romantic crowd one being Boy George and thanks to that man Stephen was "found" and eventually became who he is today. If you watch the culture clubs "Do you really want to hurt me?" you might be able to glance a young Steve Jones in the back ground and its thanks to this video and people wearing his hats in the scene that we now know who he is.
