Portmeirion - My 21st.

My Brother Sam's impression of the famous Seal photobomb...

So on Tuesday it was my 21st Birthday WOOOOO.

We had a family day out to North Wales to one of my favourite places Portmeirion! You may have heard of the pottery by this name which is part of this (but actually made in Stoke like all the best is, hellooooo Emma Bridgewater!) I primarily know it for being where The Prisoner TV series was filmed and by the way if you haven't seen it I'd seriously recommend it ever so slightly mad, late 1960s at it's best. As a family we love the show which makes visiting Portmeirion even more wonderful though it has to be said I can't leave the gift shops without something to suit the theme!

My brother came up from Kent for a few days for my Birthday and as I haven't seen him since mid January it meant we didn't even argue while he was here, which had to be a world record surely?! The weather looked stormy but the rain held off and we were even greeted by sunshine on our drive home that evening, which is typical! I dressed for comfort more than high style points as we travelled for two and a half hours each way but as always it was certainly worth it! Each time we've visited Portmeirion we have found new spots and little buildings we've missed in the past. It's truly a fascinating place and the story of how it came to be is utterly interesting and well worth a google!

As I mentioned in an earlier post this is the start of more lifestyle posts to be up on A rose like this as I really enjoy taking photographs of the places I visit, gigs I go to and the people I've seen and I hope you like them!

Glazed and Confused.

Glazed and Confused Necklace c/o Black Heart Creatives. (Sorry I look so tired!)

The fabulous Charlotte from Black Heart Creatives sent me this necklace A LONG TIME AGO. But due to a whole host of things I've only just gotten chance to put how much I love this down in writing on here. It's from the wonderfully named Live Fast Die Yum collection. When I've worn this out and about the sheer amount of compliments I get is so lovely because it's so unique and quirky. Some of my friends do find it quite funny as I'm gluten intolerant so don't actually eat donuts anymore but it doesn't mean I appreciate there beauty!

I own two other pieces from Black Heart Creatives and I have to say the quality and customer service is second to none. I wear both on at least a weekly basis and okay sometimes they can surprise people or maybe even offend slightly, I know some plus size women may prefer not to wear a necklace which says Fat Bitch in black glittery letters but it's something I take great joy in parading around in along with my Chunky yet Funky number which I had custom made and utterly adore, I'll be featuring this in an outfit post shortly! I know when I'm looking for something personal or different for someone Black Heart Creatives is the first place I'll go, I have a few ideas I'm definitely going to get made into pieces as soon as I can.

Black Heart Creatives are being so lovely by offering you lovely readers 25% off with  the code - rose25 until Tuesday 3rd of June!
I know I've got my eye on some Fat Babe earrings and an array of goodies from the site.

Biddulph Grange Gardens.

I've decided that I'm going to start posting a few more lifestyle kind of things up on A Rose Like This and this is one the first of what I hope is many. A few sunny weekends ago two of my dearest friends and myself decided to pop along to Biddulph Grange Gardens which isn't to far from my hometown, of course I took my camera with me well I'm never one to miss a photo opportunity! The house is mostly private flats or offices (I WILL LIVE THERE ONE DAY, as you get entry to the gardens as your own!) but it's the gardens you go for. I've been visiting all my life as we've always been members of the National Trust, we try to go every season as you can see all the changes and it's truly beautiful.

Biddulph Grange also has some themed gardens, one of the most well known being the Chinese Garden which includes a great wall of China! Quite a few features of it have been closed in recent years but they've all been reopened now and it's even more exciting than ever. Hence why me and the girls took the majority of our snaps there! I really love all the photographs from this trip as we spent it laughing away and I think you can really see this in the pictures. Personal favourite being me posing on the bridge with my friend Becca sneaking up behind me!

I hope you've liked this little insight into some of the trips we go on and will enjoy seeing more up on the blog soon!

Hanging on the Telephone.

Shirt: Asos. iPhone 4s Phone Case: c/o Three. Jeans: Asos Curve. Shoes: Matalan. Sunglasses: Primark.

I took these photos a few weeks ago back when we had glorious sunshine (which wasn't too warm) as now as I look out the window it's bucketing it down with rain! I decided to co ordinate my fab new phone case, which I was wondering whether I could class as a piece of designer as I doubt I'll EVER own anything else with Kate Spades name on! I brought out the pink sides of the case with the amazing lips on this shirt! I picked this up in the main range from Asos when they has 25% student discount on, I didn't really think it would fit me but surprise, surprise it actually did. I'm obsessed with the print and can't wait to pair it with a cute skirt when the sunshine is here to stay.

I paired this with my ankle grazer ( full length on me because I'm a short arse) jeans from Asos Curve and cheap and cheerful accessories. I slicked on my usual red lip but used Bourjois velvet lipsticks, which I can't remember if I've mentioned previously but I LOVE THEM and now need ALL the colours of the rainbow! I've not had my hair cut properly since before Christmas so it's the longest it's been in awhile. With this and the sunshine in mind I tied it up in a high pony and a scrunchie (oh so nineties). My blog posts may be a little sporadic for the next few weeks as I've got my final brief of my first year looming and have a lot of sewing and sketchbook work before it's done, then our fashion show which 2 pieces I've already made will be featured along side the two full outfits I'm currently creating! Eeeek busy, busy!

I loved this look, so maybe I should accessorise my clothes with my phone cases more often?!

Boohoo Plus!

Dress: c/o Boohoo. Leggings: c/o Taking Shape. Sunglasses: Specspost. Shoes: Evans. Bag: H! by Henry Holland.

I was sent this fab dress by the lovely guys at Boohoo quite some time ago but I've only just had a chance to get some photos of me in it. I'm currently obsessed with anything with a mesh panel in the hem so this was something I saw straight away and fell in love with. Now I'm only 5'2 but it's still rather short, I was going to shoot this with my pasty pale legs out but my mum informed me that you could see my knickers through the mesh when I moved so I quickly popped these leggings on in a hurry and I have to say they're something I'd normally shy a way from but the pattern in them was just far to pretty to leave. I picked these up as part of my goodies from my Taking Shape store visit. The shoes are very old from Evans which I pull out every summer without fail and finally a bag I truly love but barely use as clutches are something I don't tend to use but how could you refuse Hollands face as a Bagazine - just perfection. Just a slick of bright pink lip colour to tie it all together.

The Boohoo Plus range is something that I was really looking forward to as they're main range pieces have always looked fab and had really good price points and the plus size range hasn't thus far disappointed. I've ordered some pieces myself and other than finding some of the sizing a little funny I think there is a great range of different styles, from basics to something a little more edgy. In this dress I'm wearing a UK size 20, I would say it's pretty true to size but does cling slightly so if you wanted a looser look I'd suggest sizing up as I would also suggest sizing up in any of there plus size shift dresses as these were fitted on my stomach even in a 22.

Have you tried anything from the Boohoo Plus range yet?
