Where Have I Been?

It feels strange to be sat back down writing again... well writing something that isn't updating my portfolio for work.

I've kind of lost my way with A Rose Like This something I once loved more than anything had to take a back seat while I decided what I wanted to try and do with my career and my brain. The end of 2017 was full of highs and lows, the lowest being loosing Patch my lovely and grumpy little Jack Russell I inherited from a neighbour who passed away in January 2017 and if I'm honest I've never gotten over it. The high was landing a job that was perfect for me granted it was only for a month run (Perils of having to be freelance!) but getting to show what I can really do when it comes to costume, in particular Pantomimes and being appreciated for the work I was putting in was a wonderful feeling. One I hope I get the chance to do again in the future as we all know Panto is my shit.

January 2018 was straight out of one Pantomime production into another then a scattering of smaller projects such as custom costumes and backstage work in my local theatre until a large production of Evita in Yorkshire In a church which took over my life from the end of March until the end of April. It all came together in the end but in that kind situation I'm always clinging on for dear life and questioning my own ability (it's a long story I don't fancy typing up to be on the Internet forever but if you follow me on Instagram at the time you'll have definitely seen my mini breakdowns)

As of May 2018 I went into a youth production of Wind and the Willows and have kind of been treading water ever since, waiting for my next move. I'm constantly questioning whether to keep pushing my Costume Dressing career or just give up, so far I'm still attempting to keep that afloat. I haven't wanted to blog because I'm not wearing the fun clothes I once did and I spend weeks at a time wearing all black (like my soul) covered in safety pins and you're lucky if I even get to brush my hair sometimes. I've also not really been looking after myself and this is something that needs to change, part of my self care used to be updating A Rose Like This but now it is more just wallowing!

I'm not saying I'm back to regular posting or that the posts will be like they were before. Maybe I'll show you more of my work as that is what I spend most of my time doing or maybe my self confidence will be back to wear it was and I'll be posting sassy AF swimwear and lingerie posts again (something I really want to do as they helped me so much at the time)

Some Costumes bought/hired or made by yours truly!

If you couldn't guess from the photos the production was Cinderella and there were one or two hella quick changes!

This is another outfit I wore while I was on holiday in Suffolk. These were taken after me and my family had been out to the theatre in the forest (which I got some pictures from and will eventually upload them!) and it was really great it was something like our fifth year going but i really do love it!

Now on to what I wore, the jumper is a new piece I bought from Primark I'm loving this burnt kind of colour at the moment so expect to see more things like that coming through. The only downside is how baggy the sleeves are, I mean they are supposed to be like that but I tend to prefer something a little more fitted. The skirt is from Dorothy Perkins and you would of seen before on my blog (and will see a lot more of in the future!) this is my favourite skirt ever, I really hope I can find another one to replace it or something. The leggings are my trusty Matalan ones the socks were from Primark and originally to go with my final collection at college, then the boots I won on a twitter comp with Style369.

My make up and accessories are pretty simple on my eyes I had black smudged eyeliner on my lash line with a shimmer gold behind. Then just some lip stain to give a rosy flush to my lips. the scarf is vintage and was given to me by my mum ( I think she found when clearing through some boxes at my grandads along with some beautiful 1940s/1950s ones too) and the ring is a scrabble piece with R for Rosie on it and was given as a gift from my college helper.

A lovely reader of my blog has offered to do me a new header and layout and from what shes shown me so far there so lovely! I cannot wait to get it live on here! - edit- its up now what do you think?

The picture above is me age 18 with Keith now and the picture below was taken when I was possibly 13 with one of my friends mary. Just look at how cute and young he looks! What a babe.

This isn't really a fashion post but I want to share what I did on Thursday night with you all. I went to the theatre with my mum to watch Joesph which has this lovely bloke Keith Jack in along with a number of extremely talents people. Now he is the main reason we went, when I was about 13 he was in the show Any Dream Will Do which was on the BBC at the time Keith was about 17 or possibly 18 and yes I had the biggest crush on him ever! He's Scottish I think that says it all really, I'm a sucker for a cute accent!

But if any of you watch or have watched My Super Sweet 16 UK the Billy Elliot west end dancer guy (who's name is James Jacob Lomas?) which was in one of the shows was also in Joesph I got really excited because I actually knew him too! Unfortunately he rushed off before I got the chance to get a picture with him or even talk to him. But the costumes were AMAZING and just the whole set was great, I watched this the first time it was on the rounds 4 years ago when Keith played the narrator and not that it wasn't good then but it was just fantastic this time round! I feel I preferred everything in this version Keith was a wonderful narrator last time and was really good with the kids don't get me wrong but he was clearly born to play Joesph (how cliche does that sound?) and it helps if you look good in basically a loincloth. Me and my mum really fangirled which is actually so embarrassing but it was so much fun as well, we both know all the words to the muscial so we were singing along anyway and then at the end they came into the audience and my mum started dancing and singing along REALLY LOUDLY, she clearly has little shame, obviously shes where I get it from.

Just so this hasn't totally bored you to death I wore virtually the same outfit as I wore here I just added a cardigan, leggings and socks which aren't seen in pictures.

Just thought I'd put this one up for pure comedic value, isn't my mum just a pro at taking photographs? Though it has to be said Keith's face is just hilarious here and I love it almost as much as I love the second one.

p.s on one last final note not to sound creepy or anything but he smelt sooooo good, I just wasn't expecting him to because he'd just been on stage for like two hours, also you can actually smell him on my cardigan. my life is made.
