A Costume For Any Occasion?

Me on Halloween almost 2 years ago can you tell? Just look at that hair!

Everyone loves a good excuse to break out the fancy dress and go out on mass but in the past I've found it pretty difficult to find good costumes in plus size that aren't A. Something completely shapeless like a present costume or something that barely covers your bum which is similar to my costume above, I had to wear the black dress under it to cover my modesty on many different levels!

I recently found Elliotts Fancy Dress and even though now isn't the perfect season who needs an excuse such as Christmas or Halloween for a fancy dress party? Not me! and what's even better they have a brillaint range for plus size people like myself. Though of course I still love making my own costumes and being imaginative when it comes to my creations but sometimes you just can't beat a cute ready made costume to throw on and be out in an hour instead of spending weeks sewing a million sequins to metres of fabric!
A personal favourite of mine from the site is the adorable cowgirl fancy dress online complete with cow print skirt, which lets be honest I'd probably wear out as normal day wear anyway!

Pantomime.

For the last month or so Panto has pretty much taken over my life in the best possible sense as it's something I utterly love doing! I'll class myself as wardrobe assistant but I basically help out all over, from dressing the cast as believe me these costumes are heavy and not at all easy to get on, to altering and fixing costumes to. I also get asked my input or thoughts on how it looks from the stage. I'm lucky enough to help one of the loveliest ladies I know she's called Diane and it's always a pleasure to see her and help her out!

I snapped these pictures during one of the shows, while my dressing room was empty. Unfortunately I didn't make any of these costumes but one day I'd love to try my hand at making something for the stage. Another thing panto has made me do is love glitter, sparkles and anything diamante! If my 15 year old self could see me now she'd be horrified! (at 15 I generally hated colour, wore alot of black and liked to think I was a massive emo, and I wasn't.)

By the way the Pantomime was Sleeping Beauty and we had some rather wonderful music in it including tracks from Olly Murs, LMFAO and even had the dame doing Gangnam Style... the most disturbing thing I've ever seen to this day!

Red Riding Hood  Fancy Dress Costume: Jokers Masquerade (joke.co.uk)

So long no blog! I'm sorry its taken me so long to blog with an actual image of me as I've mentioned previously things have been a little crazy and I'm still not back into the swing of blogging and university just quite yet so bare with me!

I was sent this cute little costume MONTHS AGO in the post by the lovely people from Jokers Masquerade (again I'm so sorry its taken me so long to post this up) with all the palaver of being ill this summer and trying to intern/and getting a job I've barely had time to think. And now Halloween is very much upon us it felt like it was now or never to show you this lovely piece. This is from there Plus Size Fancy Dress selection on the website (which FYI is very easy to navigate around!) Surprisingly there is a large selection of fancy dress costumes online here for the plus size girl ranging in sizes from 16 to 26! The costume I chose was the adorable Red Riding Hood Costume priced at £28.49 which I think is a bargain for a full outfit including the cutest red satin cape which unfortunately you cannot see in the pictures above. The fabric is comfortable and not at all tight or cutting in on my figure as well as extremely fun!

I'm actually wearing it out tonight for a Halloween themed DJ night my brother is doing, I've blogged about them before his nights are called Through the Grapevine and tonight is the spectacularly spooky special (woah just look at that alliteration!) So I'm positive I'll get some much higher quality photographs then, these were taken during my time without a camera/tripod so please excuse the web cam shots, I was just desperate to show you this!

This is what happens when I come home to go to my best friends (middle picture of friend shots) little brothers 18th where we all had to dress as animals while he was dressed as a vet, he's going to uni to do veterinary sciences or something! I dressed up as a cat and even draw paw prints on my face and generally drink a bottle of wine while one of my younger best friends who happens to be Scottish comes to pick me up for the party looking like hes smothered himself in fake tan in the dark and then fallen over into a vat of cotton wool balls! I was finding them over the weekend in random parts of my bag! And finally the bottom picture is me and my amazing friend Eleanor we both share a slightly crazy love of One Direction and we re -kindled (I've actually known her since I was five) our beautiful friendship just over a year ago and I wouldn't have my life any different now! P.s she was a panther not a cat but were both from the feline family.

Right now on to the snaps my best friend Lily took in her bedroom after I'd had a glass or two of wine hence the shiny face. My top is a new buy from Primark I'm seriously loving there stuff at the moment I've only ever bought dresses tops or skirts from there in the last few years I'm yet to try trousers though I really would like to! I need some decent jeans in my life. My skirt is currently being worn to death and was a fiver from Matalan. Lastly my lippie is Barry M and was new that day and it's staying power is soo good and I also bought a Barry M lip liner which has just change my red lipstick life! The mask was made by my mum with a template off google images and some funky foam, it seriously pays to have a rainbow leader for a mum we have so much crafty stuff lying around!

Tomorrow I'm hitting up London for the Clements Ribeiro Collaboration with Evans preview, I'm so excited I'm also meeting up with Becky so we can arrive together, because a) I never really know where I'm going in London. b) I hate turning up to things on my own just in case I look a total idiot and finally c) everything is better when you turn up in two's.

Is everything a fairytale?

These photographs are from my friend Sophie's 18th birthday party from Saturday night and as you can see it was fancy dress! The theme was fantasy/fairytale so I went as a forest/flower fairy one of my best friends Marcia (in the picture with me second from the top) was a punk fairy and the beautiful boy in white is one of my oldest friends Joe and he was an angel, literally.
I truly loved this costume all he bought for it was the wings, which you can just about see from the picture of us both together! I put the full length photo of him up because I wanted to show you guys his shoes, there patent white, and yes he really did own these though Joe still won't tell me where he got them from because then apparently everyone will want to steal his style! It was such a fun night and I forgot how much I missed my high school friends, in fact I'm seeing them all again on Friday as were camping in my friends wood I'll let you know if I survive the night.

So I'll just tell you what I was wearing, all I really bought fr my costume were the wings though i did buy some white tights but then ended up wearing my own pair anyway! The dress is from Dorothy Perkins and has been featured on my blog before. Well I saw dress it is actually a little to short for that but with tights and girl boxers over I really didn't care, I was also a little merry so nothing really bothered me. The tights are also Dorothy Perkins and are some of my favourites though there getting a little to warm for the recent weather we've had in Cheshire, they also get dirty very quickly. And finally my shoes are from peacocks and the next day my feet were in so much pain because I'd also worn them to walk around Manchester that same day.

The top image is just a little close up of my make up and hair. I used a varied mix of green eye shadows and pencils to create the look, which I actually really love and may wear when I'm not dressed as a fairy (minus the gold swirls and twig patterns on the sides of my face) I then just used a pink lipstick to add a bit of colour to my face. I kept my hair simple by having it straight and pinning the sides up so my headpiece fitted better and didn't fall off when I started dancing horrifically, which I did a lot of. I've worn my hair out like this a few times since Saturday and you will be seeing it a lot more on the blog.

I hope everyone's been having a good Easter! is anyone else looking forward to the royal wedding as much as I am?
